“It Felt Like Magic”: Addison’s Story of Hope with HOP

With two kids to feed and a leaking roof over their heads, Addison felt out of options. Then she found HOP. Once she joined the program, she experienced what she describes as “magic food” that arrived at her house every Wednesday. “Life is tough for everyone, and when we started receiving produce vouchers, it made a life-changing difference. My family and I love fruits and vegetables, and these vouchers have been a lifesaver. Although we weren’t starving, we wouldn’t have been able to afford fruits and vegetables without them,” Addison said. She values providing her children with healthy and nutritious food, and while fresh produce can be expensive, the HOP program has enabled her to give her kids the best food possible.

“HOP is great, it needs to stay.”

HOP helped put a roof on my home when we really needed it. One of our bathrooms was leaking, and I knew we couldn’t delay getting a new roof. Addison called around to get quotes, and the lowest estimate was over $11,000. I cried when I heard that number. A roof is not something you can negotiate on, and we desperately needed it. I was beginning to think that I would have to take out a loan to ensure my family had a safe and leak-free home.”

I decided to reach out to the HOP program through HCM for help, but I was still unsure if they would be able to assist us. I have always believed that the answer will be no if you don’t ask. Someone from the HOP program came out to assess our situation and took some pictures. Shortly after, we had a new roof installed on our home.

This roof was put on just before Hurricane Helene, and it held up against the heavy rainfall. I couldn’t help but think about the damage that would have occurred if we still had the old roof. Replacing it was a true blessing for me and my kids. If we hadn’t replaced the roof, we wouldn’t have been able to use that part of the house at all.

“HOP has been incredible; times are tough enough already, and then this program came to our rescue.”

HOP is excellent at preventing future issues, such as a collapsing roof and extensive damage, as seen in Addison's case. NCHOP is a program that supports anyone facing challenges, such as single mothers who want to provide their children with fruits and vegetables while ensuring a safe home. HOP enables people to focus on their lives, work, and families, fostering a happier community that is prepared for challenges rather than reacting to crises as they arise.
